Toyota hybrids have best month ever

With the all-new Toyota Prius Prime launching last month, Toyota had its best-ever month of June in terms of sales with 2 205 hybrid vehicles units sold, up 7.5 percent when compared to the same month last year.

Hybrids were but one component of another record-setting month for Toyota. The Japanese automaker also set new records for truck sales, and for overall sales with 23 436 units sold in total for Canada, an increase of 6.5 percent compared with last year.

When you look back at overall sales numbers of Toyota hybrid models when they launched back 2000, you can get a glimpse of just how far the market, and Toyota’s hybrid offering, have come. Indeed, just 225 hybrid Toyota vehicles were sold back in 2000. Last month, Toyota Prius Prime sales only almost reached that level with 144 units leaving dealership floors.

Other highlights last month include Toyota Corolla sales which jumped 12.5 percent to 5,617 units. Toyota truck sales were up 13.5 percent while RAV4 sales finished steady with 5,047 units sold. Finally, the Toyota Highlander had an incredible month with 1,562 units sold, up 30.7 % compared to June 2016.
