Giving Back This Holiday Season in Newmarket, Aurora & Bradford

As the holidays draw near, many families in our area are facing tough times. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to make a difference right here in Newmarket, Aurora, and Bradford. Local drives and charities are once again coming together to bring comfort, food, and cheer to those who could use some extra support.

One of the biggest community initiatives is the Holiday Heroes Toy Drive, run by York Regional Police. From November 15 to December 19, 2025, they’ll be collecting new, unwrapped toys, non-perishable food, personal care items, and gift cards. You can easily drop off donations at any NewRoads dealership in Newmarket, Aurora or Richmond Hill, or head to the York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora.

When donating, try to think beyond the usual gifts for younger kids. Teenagers are often missed in these drives, so items like gift cards, small electronics, hair accessories, or makeup can go a long way toward making them feel appreciated.

Don’t forget about the youngest members of our community, too. Baby essentials such as diapers, wipes, formula, shampoo, blankets, and sleepers are always in demand. New parents facing financial challenges especially appreciate these thoughtful contributions.

Several other local programs are also lending a hand this season. The Newmarket Lions Club Santa Fund distributes grocery gift cards to families in need. In Bradford, Fire & Emergency Services runs its own toy drive to support local children, while the Town of Aurora places food and toy donation bins at its municipal offices on Mulock Drive each year. Giving locally ensures that your kindness directly benefits neighbours in your own community.

For those looking to help with food donations, the Newmarket Food Pantry supports over 2,300 residents each month, providing essential groceries and household items. The Helping Hand Food Bank in Bradford offers a similar service, with donations accepted during open hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In Aurora, Trinity Anglican Church’s Clothes Closet welcomes gently used clothing, which is available free to local residents. Drop-off bins can be found behind the church.

Every toy, coat, or can of food adds up to something meaningful. By supporting these local organizations, you’re helping create a brighter, more compassionate holiday season for families throughout Newmarket, Aurora and Bradford.
