2026 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid

2026 Toyota Highlander

Refined comfort, confident AWD and hybrid efficiency in one SUV

The 2026 Toyota Highlander lineup has officially arrived in Canada, bringing with it a well-rounded mix of comfort, capability and efficiency. Offered in both gas and hybrid-electric versions, Highlander continues to appeal to drivers who want the smooth driving manners of a car with the flexibility and confidence of a three-row SUV. Whether the priority is daily commuting, growing family needs, or weekend travel, Highlander is designed to adapt.

Toyota offers the 2026 Highlander in seven total trims, spanning traditional gas powertrains and fuel-efficient hybrid models. With a starting MSRP of $51,285, the range gives Canadian buyers multiple paths to ownership while staying true to Toyota’s core strengths of dependability, quality, and long-term value.

Confident styling backed by smart engineering

The exterior design of the 2026 Highlander balances bold styling with aerodynamic purpose. Sculpted body lines and a wide stance give the SUV a planted, confident look, while Toyota’s New Global Architecture platform allows for improved ride quality and efficiency. The low centre of gravity is not just a visual choice, it contributes directly to better handling, improved fuel economy, enhanced stability, and reduced road noise.

Inside the cabin, versatility takes centre stage. Highlander is available with either seven- or eight-passenger seating, and all configurations provide straightforward access to each row. Eight-passenger models use a second-row bench with a 60/40 split, while seven-passenger versions swap the bench for captain’s chairs to increase comfort. Every model includes a fold-flat third row, and when additional storage is needed, total cargo space expands to up to 2,387 litres behind the front seats.

Toyota Highlander gas and hybrid performance with all-wheel-drive confidence:

Toyota’s multi-pathway powertrain strategy continues with the 2026 Highlander, which is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive across both gas and hybrid versions.

Gas-powered Highlander models are available in four trims and feature a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup produces 265 horsepower and up to 309 lb-ft of torque, while stop and start technology helps improve efficiency in urban driving. These models are rated to tow up to 2,268 kilograms and include Trailer Sway Control to help maintain stability. The XLE trim uses Dynamic Torque All-Wheel Drive, while XSE, Limited, and Platinum trims are equipped with Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD, along with Drive Mode Select and a driveline disconnect system.

Hybrid Highlander models are offered in three trims and rely on Toyota’s proven Hybrid Synergy Drive. The system combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric motor-generators and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Total system output is 243 horsepower, and combined fuel consumption is rated at just 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres. Hybrid towing capacity is rated at 1,588 kilograms. These models use an electronic on-demand all-wheel-drive system, powered by a dedicated rear electric motor that activates when traction demands increase.

Toyota connected technology with safety at the forefront:

Every 2026 Highlander is equipped with Toyota Multimedia, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The system is designed for intuitive use through touch, voice commands, and familiar smartphone-style gestures. A seven-inch multi-information display and Smart Key with push-button start are also standard across the lineup.

Safety remains a core pillar of the Highlander family. All trims include Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, along with the Toyota Star Safety System, a backup camera, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, tire pressure monitoring with automatic location, an anti-theft system, and eight airbags.
